At the gym today I met up with a dude from Russia who attends the Russian church here in town where they do everything in Russian. Now, I do not speak or understand Russian. So I asked him what would happen if I came to his church. He said I would be given a set of headphones and an interpreter in the balcony would interpret for me so I would understand.
I immediately thought...how many churches need to have headphones with interpreters so the unchurched - should they come - would understand their language and culture?
We must communicate truth using creativity and the language of those we are trying to reach. We must know the culture we are living in.
Sounds like this was a big issue talked about today at Granger's Innovative Church Conference. I am still weeding through the blogs and notes that were taken. I went last year and if it weren't for the building campaign - I would so be there this year!
